Speedometer cable problems

I bought a new speedometer cable because my speedomer was not working. The end that attached by the front tire does not quite fit. The wire cable inside the casing stickes out too far and it will not allow me to screw the end on. Any ideas?

From a speedometer cable replacement years ago and on a different vehicle, I recall I had to give that wire cable inside a little twist to get it to seat down into whatever socket it fits into down there. It wouldn't just go in without a quarter turn or so, but after the small twist things just all slid together nicely.

Good luck!
