Yet ANOTHER electrical gremlin

Ok so I changed the pickup coils on friday, rode the bike approx 100 miles since then. And when i get to work today it died as i was pulling up. refused to recrank, (starter wouldn't turn over). I did the pickup coil mod while i was in there .018 gap. so i let the bike sit for about 2 hours and it wanted to turn over, OK weird. another two hours go by and i get ready to leave work she cranks slowly and refuses to catch but does have some firing cylinder action. I pulled out my little jump box i got for xmas and she fires up get it idling disconnect the box and let it warm up while i gear up after a minute or two it dies. So i roll start it and limp it home battery voltage was 11.6 when i got home and it didn't want to run under 3k rpms.

Also have noticed some headlight / guage light flickering at night for a week or two ever since i jumped a buddy's bike off with mine.

Got the battery on the charger now guess I'll let it get full and go for a quick ride and see if the voltage drops again. if so i guess it's time to test the stator and R/R. F#$*

Must be the karma gods getting back at me for riding while y'all northerners are stuck in the cold.

Well I'm just guessing as my multimeter hasn't found it's way back to me just yet. But I think this might have something to do with it not charging. . . Also now the headlight no longer comes on after cranking but it does work if i Jump the relay out of the system.

Shall I start taking odds on the stator being bad? and likely the R/R?

Two of the stator connections are shorted to ground. . .

Time for a motor pull. And the weather this week was supposed to be good.

Any adverse effects if i just charge the battery nightly to ride into work for the next week? since the headlight won't be on i'd imagine the drain would be minimal.

just a note, if you are interested in the alternator mod you don't have to pull the engine to do anything at all bolts up nice and easy. Just putting it out there. Lol

After some hemming and hawing, decided I'll do it the right way and Pull the engine so i can get in there and paint / clean / redo the wiring the right way. gonna take this 900 dollar pig and spit shine it into a decent bike. At least make it worthy of the future crazy plans. . .
