turn signals

Hello all, its time I replace my turn signals, there limp as can be and just bounce up and down. Im thinking of giving the el cheapo LED lights on ebay a try, kinda figure you get what you pay for so with that in mind have any of you tried them? If I can get the links to work ill post a few im thinking of trying.

Just a note if you do change them you may need to get a EP34 flasher relay to fix the blink rate. It's a plug and play thing. About $10.

Another thing to keep in mind is the two wire vs 3 wire signals.

2 Wires will be ground and positive 12v for when the blinker is switched on,
but the light will not be on at all unless you have the blinker going.

If you want to have a dual function running light / blinker, where the light is
on at all times and blinks brighter when you hit the turn signal, youll need 3 wire
turn signals. The front on your bike should have been 3 wire from the factory,
and the rear I believe are usually 2 wire but you can splice the blue running light
wire onto them to make them running lights as well.

I have been going thru all this and made the mistake of ordering two wire lights from
the ol bay and had to go sort thru the listings to find 3 wire ones I liked.

front signals are 3 wire and incorporate a running light that stays on all the time.
Rear blinkers are 2 wire and only function as blinkers.

If you keep the same style stalks, I offer LED inserts to fit the round case....see my signature links.

IF you add running lights to the rear, you have to check your local laws because AMBER is not permitted in the rear in most states unless it is a blinker only. My inserts have RED LED running lights and AMBER blinkers on the same board which is leagal with a RED lens. Yellow shows through the red lens just fine....or use smoked lenses.

and yes, you will need to replace your blinker relay with an EP34 like Thtanner said.

Guys I got my lights in and the rear turn signals installed, what do you think?

this is the light strait out of the package.

this is them installed and ready to go.

Here they are with the flashers on, its not a very good pic but its goodn to see how bright they are.

This is the mounting plates I made from aluminum flat stock so I could mount them in the original place as toe others with out drilling unnessary holes in my bag mounts.

Pays to read first...

Hey all, I love all the info here. I almost never need to ask a question because they are all already answered here.

I just received my new eBay turn signals and they look great for $10. I like the LED and I like that its simple to replace the flasher unit rather than install the resistor ballasts like I did on my sisters R6.

My question was about mounting them, ours have the twist lock base with the screw off to the side. The new ones (all except OEM) are a single stalk with the wires protruding through the stem.

I love the simple plate scott42 made and that is the answer to my question. I assume I can make these from whatever aluminum or steel stock I have in the shop.

One more question tho, and I apologize if it was already covered but I assume I will lose my front running lights because the stock are 3 wire not 2. Was anyone able to easily fix this issue? If I added a resistor to lower the LED output and add a diode to prevent back flow I could maybe add the feature back with little hassle. Just wondering out loud.

Thanks for all your advise.
