Just looked into that. Opened the gas tank for a few minutes and started right up. Guess I'll clean some vents tomorrow

Rebuilding my starter didn't fix my hot start problem. Here's what my work surface looked like in the living room.

Glad it fixed your hot start issue. I'm having the same issue where it turns over fine when cooled down, but when fully warmed up it barely turns over. Likely due to the higher compression when warm. My kit was ordered and I'm about to rebuild the starter, too. Many times when installing new bushings in auto starters, I've had to hone down the insides of the bushing in order for the shaft to fit in. Not a big deal, just wrap a wood dowel with 220 emery paper and go at it a few licks at a time.

Mine stranded me at the inspection station yesterday. I was thinking of buying this rebuild kit. Good to know its not a direct replacement! I also need to look at my ignition switch as it has been so sketchy lately

My 85 does that. I hate to make a quick stop because of it. Would never think starter though. I think I have narrowed it down to the ignition switch
