Question 10amp relays and LEDs

A while back the local Advance Auto had some of those little led accent lights on clearance so I picked up a pair for like $2. Finally got around to installing them today. I was going to use an existing circuit form my old driving lights since it was already switched and had a 10a relay. Could not get the lights to work using the relay. Tested everything with my volt meter and it everything was connected as it should be. I had juice at the appropriate blade connector, but the lights just wouldn't come on. Finally just took the relay out and wired the lights into the switch circuit and all is well. But why wouldn't it work on the relay? Does using a relay require a certain amount of draw to work (less than the LEDs pull)? Surely these little LEds are not pulling more than 10a?

You may already know, but led's have to be connected only one way. Electicity will not run both ways through them.

Roger that. When I was trying to use the relay, I made sure to rule out bad leds or wrong wires by putting them on good, unswitched power and they worked fine

Most relays need 30mA to switch them. The draw that they are hooked up tp does not matter.
Yes LED's cant be hooked up in revierse, they wont work.

I use relays used on cars that run the fuel pump or radiator fan. They work great.
