alternator rewire

My alternator wires got fried by the exhaust pipe.. My '94 has a 2006 engine.. and apparently the wires were routed incorrectly.. Obviously ,I need to replace them.. What gauge are they?... 16, 18 ?.. help..

I'm pretty sure they are 18 gauge, but jumping up a size or two should be beneficial to the performance of the stator as there will be less resistance with the larger wire and therefore slightly less heat buildup.

......I'd rather wake up in the middle of nowhere then in any city on earth.

Garage
Be sure to test your stator too. Melting wires could have grounded it out & ruined it.
There's several posts here with the info.
