So my friend was in town for a month and I lent him my vn750 - and he laid it down avoiding an ******* who cut him off hard. (guy got out, made sure my friend was ok, helped him pick up the bike-- then went back to his truck-- and peeled off!! )

the long and short of it is that my buddy is fine, but my left blinker no longer works. it still glows, but does not blink - the rear does, but the front does not. replacing the bulb had no result.

i havnt had a chance to really check it out myself, but wondered if anyone just knew what it was- then i could just get it fixed-

By "still glows" I am assuming you are reffering to the running light or is the light just lighting up when you turn the signal on and also not blinking? Pull the headlight out of the bucket and check the wires for your turn signal all the way up to the turn signal mount and check the mount to make sure the wires are not exposed. Disconnect the left turn signal and plug the wires for the right turn signal into it and see if it works.
I have a feeling you may have a wire that is either disconnected or stretched out in the accident and broke and isn't making contact to allow the turn signal to work properly or you have an internal problem with the connections at the base of the left signal--either way you will need a new one. Unless a wire is disconnected.
