low batt voltage??

ok so i have a analog volt meter on my bike and a while back i was seeing readings of 13.5 to 14 volts while running down the road
and now im seeing 12.3

the only electrical thing i have done is to move blue wire in harness bypassing headlight relay as my light wasnt working

i tested the volts on the batt and i have
12.2v just sitting
12.4v at 4k rpms

im not sure where to go from here but im afraid the stator is going

any ideas??

It takes 13+ volts to maintain/charge a 12 volt battery. 12 volt is minimal and should be 12.7 volts on a fully charged battery. SO, what I'm saying is at 12.4 you ain't charging. Test the stator at the connections behind the engine and if all goes well move to the R/R. Could be bad connection at the r/r.

Try un-doing what you did, moving the blue wire back to where it was and re-test, Just a thought!!

04-3,200 miles bought July 2011 with 928 miles. Loaded with acessories to many to list here, see my albums for more details! I also make a custom tank bib specific for the 750 if anyone is interested, ck my albums for some pics.

Try this link. Read through it and print the pages. Write down the results and we can help pin point the problem. Volt ohm meter set to ohms and zero out. Then when testing voltage at the stator set to ac when testing at the stator connections and dc testing at the battery.

firsttests=

i put the blue wire back in stock position and
key off = 12.47v
at idle= 12.37v
at 4k = 12.56v and slowly climbing

did headlight relay bypass and
key off =12.5v
idle = 12.18v
4k = 12.3v

i figured the v would be lower as now the headlight is on

ok 3rd test
stator ac voltage

at idle legs
a to b = 4.54v
a to c = 15.45v
b to c = 16.5v

at 3k legs
a to b= 9.39v
a to c =42.2v
b to c = 40 .8v

uh oh!
