No Power - Sizzle sound

2001 Kawasaki VN750 with 8800 original miles. No extras.
Bought the bike a few weeks back. No starting issues at all.
Went out this morning and it turned over as fast as usual and idled a second then died. I then added a little choke then pushed starter button for a split second and a heard a "sizzle" sound by front lower engine.
Now----No lights. No power. Nothing.
First thought was fuse. I pulled the cover and individually checked all fuses. All were fine. Pulled each one out and put it back in. Decided to check again. Power was on. Turned right over and started. Let it idle a few minutes. Turned it on and off several times. Sounded great like problem was never there.
Drove it a block and came back. Shut it off. Turned it over and short-1/2 second "sizzle" sound. No power again.
I think the fuse check was a fluke... but I am looking for other possible issue based on where the sizzle sound came from.
Is there another fuse somewhere for all power?
Is there something else I should be looking at?

check the post on the starter for the positive cable, when you hear the sizzle it don't turn over right?

No power at all to even find where exactly the sizzle came from. Sizzle came while I had power and was turning over. Now.. no power.

Hi, check the battery connections, and the connections to and from the starter solenoid. Also the Earth strap from the rear of the engine to the frame. It sounds like one of these has gone high resistance from being lose or corroded.

Follow up

Pulled the main fuse again and put in new fuse .... no change.
Cleaned the starter connection. No change.
Walked away for a few minutes and I left the key in the ON position. Came back a few minutes alter and power was to the dash. Tried starting. Sizzle. Now no power to anything... again.
I kind of think starter too... but why no power to the dash like in a car? Starter could go out but still have lights.
This is getting weird.

Did you happen to turn the bars at all when it sizzled?

There's some posts about the wiring getting shorted out on the fork lock mechanism. Wolfie said the horn wires run about 10 items and they short out there.

Jiggle the key in the switch and see if the problem is a dirty loose puck in the switch. Some posts around about cleaning/tightening that too.

no power at all, check your ground cable to the engine....

SOLVED--By The Forum

Every now and then... I feel stupid.
Loose battery connection. That was it.
I pulled off the seat and looked at two loose connections.... the negative was barely connected at all.
Fired right up.
Thank you all for your comments.
Never even considered the battery because of the sizzle sound.
This forum is great.... saved my HippoBottomus.
