Boiling Battery

Hello all. Yesterday, it was around 72 here in NY so I thought I would take the bike out for a spin. Everything is good until I stop for a smoke break. While looking at the bike, I notice that the battery acid was dripping out of the overflow tube at a pretty good rate. ie 1 drop every 10 sec or so. The battery water level was normal before I took a spin. I dont have a meter to check the charging system, but can I be pretty sure that the bike is over charging?
What is the normal charging rates that I should see at idle and at 4k rpm.
Thanks. By the way, its an 06 VN750 with 3400 miles.

I think you should see around 13 v. at idle, and around 14 - 14.5 at 4k (you can find more exact numbers this searching here in this forum). Good reason to go ahead and switch to a sealed maint. free battery. You'll be better off all around with doing this, better spark, less electrical system problems, no dripping acid to wreak havoc on other parts. Good luck!

Thanks, I was just able to borrow a meter and at static, the battery measured 12.2V. At Idle it was 13.2-13.4, at 4k it was around 14.2-14.5. This coming spring ill pickup a MF battery. Its too late for my V/H Cruzers, the left pipe is acid etched on the side closest to the rear wheel from spraying acid. Thank goodness you cant see it. Ill wait until I get the MF battery before I put the V/H back on.
