License Plate Bulb Replacement???

Anyone know if a Sylvania 97 bulb is a cross to the license plate bulb? Can't find ratings for it anywhere.

Thanks,

Jon

All I was able to find so far is that the stock bulb is 5w.

If Dianna doesn't know, then the next best thing would be to yank it and take it into an auto parts place.

I did, they scratched their head, and borrowed my magnifying glass. Seems to be the same brightness and is for license plates, but probably automotive.
If I get a chance, I'll measure the current into it and find out the wattage and see if it makes sense.

I found the 5w and 4 candle power ratings for the replacment, can't find Sylvania's ratings for their 97 bulb anywhere.

One comment on the LED replacement..
You will have to make sure the LED shines down or refects back to the license plate. Most LEDs are designed to project out.
You can use them of course but you will either have to change the placement of the socket or add reflective material to the cowl.

i planned to make a ______ type bracket where the license plate would attach to. the bracket would run the full length of the top of the plate, with white leds in it. I figure i can fit about 12 leds in there to provide ample lighting.

if you want to keep the stock unit, you can rig about 8 leds (use higher powered ones) and put them on a board like this \_/ in the housing so that you get the angles needed....
