Vulcan 750 1985 19.000 miles will not charge

I bought this bike just recently for cheap money $300 and it seems to run all right but the charging system doesn't work. The battery is running the bike and not being charged back up by the alternator or generator. The guy that had it before me wasn't real slick and I think he connected the battery cables backward and blew some fuses... the fuses are all good behind the side cover,,, what should I check?

I'd find the procedures posted here in the sticky posts and a multimeter, then go through the R/R test first, then the stator. Ask away in this post if you need help with testing.

Does the R/R look like it's been modified in any way? For instance, a MOSFET R/R kit would also have a fuse or circuit breaker inline on the positive wire from the r/r to battery positive.

You're on your second post.... Welcome to the Vulcan madness, enjoy!
