R/R Readings from Healthy System needed..

Does anyone have, or can anyone take both ac input (top three terminals) to r/r and both dc o/p's (left ground (for both dc readings), middle battery, right monitor) from r/r so I can compare to mine? Would like idle, 2k, 3k, 4k, and 5K rpm readings.

You can get meter leads right into the back of the r/r connector by removing the left cover. No further disassembly needed.

Thanks in advance for the help!!

Jon

If you don't get the readings I can always swing by and you can check mine.

Arty -

If you have your bike at work, could you check them with a meter and either post or email them to me?

Picked up new battery (under warranty) yesterday so I want to see whats up before putting some miles on it.

Thanks,

Jon

there should be a listing under the vulcan versus. Also make sure u disconect the stator when getting the stator readings.... i forgot to do that and was worried

I didn't see any r/r output data in the versus, then again, I have css, crs, and something else too....

I already have the stator data, I am looking to see what the r/r outputs are at the various rpm's to see if my charging system is working correctly.

I have new r/r and new battery, don't want to ruin either one of them.

Thanks,
Jon

Is this what you're lookin' for ......

- How to check out the R/R

If you have the Kawasaki Service Manual, you will find R/R checkout on page 15-18. If you don't I will list what is there for you. Quoted from the manual as much as possible: Regulator/Rectifier Inspection Remove the left side cover. Pull out the connector. Be sure to set the hand tester to the 100 ohm range and zero the meter(Not necessary on a digital meter) Check the resistance between the regulator/rectifier terminals as follows(there is a chart and picture in the manual which I cannot reproduce right now but I will try to put it in words for you)

A1 A2 A3 All Alternator Terminals --- --- --- Connector with pins facing you and notch at bottom --- --- ---

G M B: G = Ground, M = Monitor, B = Battery --|__|-- (Hope that came across right)

Measure B to M - should read infinity

Measure B to G - should read infinity

Measure B to A1, A2, A3 - should read infinity

Measure M to B - should read > 10K ohm Measure

M to G - should read > 10K ohm

Measure M to A1, A2, A3 - should read > 10K ohm

Measure G to B - should read between 0.4 to 2K ohm

Measure G to M - should read between 1 to 5K ohm

Measure G to A1, A2, A3 - should read 0.2 to 0.6K ohm(200 to 600 ohm)

Measure A1, A2, A3 to B - should read 0.2 to 0.6K ohm(200 to 600 ohm)

Measure A1, A2, A3 to M - should read infinity

Measure A1, A2, A3 to G - should read infinity

If there is more resistance than the specified value, the unit has an open lead and must be replaced. Much less than this resistance means the unit is shorted, and must be replaced. Hope this helps someone out there.

Hyper -

I already had this, I am looking for voltage measurements on the r/r as installed in a healthy charging system.

I used this to determine that my old one was bad.

But thanks.

Jon

well there isnt a way to measure voltage outputs of a r/r other then at the battery. this is cause the r/r will vary voltage to meet a perset goal. that is why you have to do the the stator test to verify that the stator is producing enough voltage. if your stator voltage is good, and your voltage wont go up with rpms topping out at shy of 15 volts, then you have a short in the electrical system. or a broken wire from the charging system

Maybe if everybody READ the question?

Could somebody with a good stator please measure the output at different rpms and report it here?

oh, i would do mine, but that would be worthless, as mine is a moded stator anyway.
