headlight

I was riding last night. The low beam of my stock headlight giving decent illumination. But then there was no traffic and I switched up the light up to "high". The road got darker and trees 100 feet in the air were nice and visible. So I switched back.

If I move the light so that the high beam is aligned better, my low beam will be terrible. It's just a basic 2 element headlight...would it make a difference if I rotated the light assembly so the elements were oriented left/right instead of top/bottom? Right now the 'high' element is on the bottom so most of it's light reflects upward. What if I rotated the light 180 degrees so the 'high' was on the top?

I know from looking at the Yahoo group that adding lights is pretty popular, so that's one option. I'm really looking to improve the illum. from the stock light though. Any suggestions?

Re: headlight

I started reading this and thought.. I wonder if his headlight is upside-down! I'd flip it and give it a try. Can't be any worse and I think trying to align it in it's current state would eliminate your low beam for all practical purposes.

Re: headlight

I decided to try realigning the headlight a little first to see if that makes a difference. Whenever possible, I try to make the small adjustments first. Next I'll try spinning the headlight. If that doesn't help...I guess I'll add driving lights to my winter mod list.

Re: headlight

Sounds like perhaps the filaments in the bulb may be out of alignmnet. Try a new bulb before you go redisigning the lighting system.
