Anyone upgraded to rear running/turn combo?

I noticed the other night that the rear turn signals don't operate as running lights... looking through the wiring confirms that the bike wasn't made to operate that way. Has anyone upgraded to a run/turn combo in the rear signals?

This the way I did mine. I used front turn sigs and made a red lense from trailer lights.

Yup, I went with 'dynamic clusters.' They are run/turn/brake LED's. I imagine you could replace the sockets with three wire sockets and just tap into the running light circuit under the seat that goes to the tail light and plate light. I believe it's the red wire... although I'm not sure about the laws and what color you can use for rear run/turns....

I converted my rear stalks to have dual elements sockets. Running lights and blinkers with red lenses.

Since then, I made my own LED boards to install into the rear lenses

Outer ring of LED's is AMBER for directional and inner ring is RED for running lights:

I may be making more of these for members who are interested.

see more photos with info in my albums.

Installed a pair of Chris Products dual element lights (from a local truck stop) to the rear of my bike as well.

so I'm considering doing one of two things:

1. Converting to dual element sockets and just wiring into the taillight.
2. Leaving the stalks as-is and wiring in a N/C relay into the turn signal cancellation circuit. This would allow the tails to be on but the relay would open when the turn signal (either side) is turned on.

What do you think? For those who have converted to dual filament sockets, was it very difficult? The relay seems like an elegant solution, but adds a bit of wiring...

turn signal lights are bright.... like brake lights...you would have overly bright tail lights !

I left the tail light as is for brakes, but I added a normally "OFF" light as a secondary brake light on the sissy bar backrest as pictured above. This works well to get drivers behind you to notice that you are braking.

If you convert your existing stalks, it isn't hard to do as long as you can get the right sockets....a little light oil and they slide out of the rubber stalks. slide the new ones in and you are basically ready to go.

Like I said...my stalks serve as running lights and blinkers. I tried to keep the brake lights separate so they would be more obvious during daylight
