Rear lights & safety
Can anyone please help?
I am trying to add some additional safety lights in the back of the bike for riding at night and have no idea on what is available or what I can add to help increase my visability at night?
I am open to any ideas/suggestions.

First I'd find some reflective strips/decals to put on the helmet. Then find a reflective vest or jacket...and reflective striped pants.
I'd add some low watt driving lights, and pick up a trailer taillight from Walmart and wire it up to the stock taillight, installing it on the toolbox cover.
Some folks have wired a set of three wire front turnsignals in the rear, giving you running lights and additional brake lights. You need red lenses or clear ones with red bulbs BTW.
You can also put some reflective strips down the fork legs.
Google reflective motorcycle decals/kits... There's alot out there.
One company makes a reflective strip that goes around the wheels.
Look for posts on driving lights here.
That should get you started.

I did this (by converting the rear ones with dual filament socket) and have running lights in the blinker housing with red lenses to keep it legal.
I also added LED bolts to the license frame (and moved stock reflectors to bottom of frame) and added another LED marker light on the extended back rest (both work as brake lights)
during the daytime people know when I hit my brakes....at night it really does stand out and make a difference.

I did the front Kawa lights on the rear, so now have got full time running on both ends, the flasher filiment is much brighter , even with the running light on it is evident the turn sig is on. Don't know about having to have red lenses on the rear, to me would make it seem to someone behind that I'm riding my brake!! But that is just my OP. Oh, and by the way super to wire in!
04-3,200 miles bought July 2011 with 928 miles. Loaded with acessories to many to list here, see my albums for more details! I also make a custom tank bib specific for the 750 if anyone is interested, ck my albums for some pics.

When you hit the brake, both lights go on (red) , when you are signaling, just one goes on..... but blinks.
If you wire them as running lights and turn signal, you would keep them amber. I think....lol.
The tail light on the Vulcan is kinda pitiful. For me, I'd rather have extra brake lights over just a running light....but my suggestion was to wire up a trailer light to the tool box also...which would be an extra tail light and brake light. If you do this, making the turn signals amber as rear running lights and turn signals would be an addition.
You do need to check with your states laws. Many states have laws as to what color blinking lights you use.....but you really want your brake lights to be red.

In Texas, the running lights must be red to the rear. Turns can be red to amber, so can the brake lights. But I prefur red brake lights myself.

in my state all rear facing lighting MUST be red unless it is a single function directional indicator that is in an amber lens. If a blinker is the only bulb, then amber is allowed in the rear...if it is a running light with a blinker in the same housing, it MUST be red.
Since mine are running lights and blinkers in the same housing, I replaced the lenses with red.
I also am using 2057 bulbs in place of the stock 1157 bulbs. The difference is that the running light filament is a lower wattage and allows the "blinker" element to have better contrast when on.

Where might one find replacement red lenses to fit the Kawi signals?
