another voltmeter question

I installed the Kuryakyn voltmeter/battery meter today and have a question. Going by the directions, the green lights indicate 12.5-14.5 volts. Upon starting the bike, I am not in the green but I'm there within 30 seconds at idle and it charges up as I rev the throttle.
Should I be in green from the moment I turn the key on, or am I OK as is.
I already have a MF battery, but it was in place from the PO. Not sure if I need to get a new one or not

I'm not counting on mine for pinpoint accuracy as it's wired into the headlight bucket. When I start it cold with the choke it is green, warming up at about 1,500 rpms. At regular idle it is yellow and when I'm moving it stays green. If I'm ever riding and the green flickers or goes yellow, then I'll know there's a problem. That's all I really need it for. If I need a precise voltage I'll get the meter out of my tool box and put it directly on the battery.
