New rider confused!

Alright, so I bought my bike about a week ago and everything's been going fine. Changed the oil, the plugs, & the battery. Batt currently reads 12.62V. She was stating up fine until I decided to put her into gear to take her for my first ride. Not surprisingly, I stalled the bike before I got going and now I can't get her to turn over. I have a feeling this is user error and not electrical...the neutral light is on & it does click when I try the starter but all the lights go out immediately. They go back on when I hit the horn or toggle the switch or basically play around with anything electrical. Ideas? Thanks in advance!

Check all ground connections. Loose ground cables can cause the symptoms you describe.

Also, the battery could read a charged voltage, but still be a bad battery. How old is it? You can take it to AutoZone to get load tested.

FINE-C/C

Fuel = should be in the On or Run position
Ignition = should be in the On or Run position
Neutral = the bike should be in Neutral
Engine cut off Switch = should be in the On or Run position
Clutch = squeeze in the clutch
/ Choke = turn on the Choke if the engine is cold.

If doing all of that doesn't get the bike to start then yes, you have a maintenance issue.

I ride with another VN750, a lot of trips to Oak Beach. If you are a new rider Oak Beach on a Sunday morning will blow your mind. Should I get in touch with you and let you know next time we go? I'm in East Rockaway and he's in Island Park. John is also on this forum but I can't remember his handle. Send me a PM if you're interested.
