r/r, stator

well I replaced the battery and the suspected burnt out r/r. well needless to say the battery went dead and left me stranded even with the new r/r. i did a resistance check on r/r and stator. the stator shows no open lines. however the new aftermarket r/r resistance readings are no where near what Kawasaki said they should be..I'm stumped. Of course the facility I bought the r/r said there is no way there part is defective and of course i am screwed....................any suggestions.....2000 vn750

Did you do the grounding check on the stator, as well as the output check?

What voltage do you see off the stator wires (AC?) at idle, and at 4k rpm?

Try putting a full charge on the battery. When I changed my r/r I took it for a ride and the bike stalled on me about 3 miles from home. The battery was flat and I couldn't re start it.. after cursing for 15 min amazingly she did start and I got home.. to make a long story short I charged it for 24hrs and retested the new r/r and the old stator and everything looked good.. So I took her for another ride and she's been good for about a year now. (the battery was only a few days old BTW) You can also take the battery to to AutoZone and they well test it free..

I need to change the battery in mine and as I'm reading here I have to ask what is this "r/r" that is referred to?

1. The "aftermarket" r/r may not necessarily give the same resistance test results as the OEM unit.

2. To get the same resistance measurements as the Kawa test you need to use an Analog meter (like Kawasaki's "test tool"). In general Digital meters will give inconsistent resistance readings on solid state devices such as the r/r.

the R/R is the regulator/rectifier

By the way, Slim posted a test procedure to cover the entire charging system. I would look for that and fill it out....it is very thorough and once you provide that info, we can pinpoint the problem.
