Need Help with: Generator Gasket & Grommets
Would greatly appreciate some help to what is probably an obvious answer to everyone but me, but since I don't want to assume and screw this up here goes. I am in the process of installing a new stator using the TOC modified cover. This is the first time so we are talking engine tilt process here and the new stator came with a new plug / grommet. I need help with the placement of the two grommets (ignition & stator) in the slot and the gasket. I have installed the two grommets in different ways (long ways and width ways) and in each case the top grommet extends above the cover, making it impossible for the gasket to be flush with the cover surface.
How are these grommets to be installed? Since there is a slit in the other mating surface (engine) for the other side (part extending from the cover) of the grommet to slide into, should the gasket get installed in between the two grommets? Does it matter which grommet goes in first and which way the orientation is? Also, read many posts about sealing the grommets, some used silicone but Lance advised against that because of the lack of oil resistance. I intend to use the high tack which was one of his recommendations. It that an acceptable way to go?
Thanks in advance for the feedback!
