I bought a 94 vulcan about 2 months ago. It ran fine then one day it just wouldn't turn on. The lights would come on but the ignition switch would do nothing and the starter solenoid relay would not click.
If I jumped the solenoid the bike would start. So i ordered a new starter solenoid and replaced it. Still nothing.
I took apart my the ignition and kill switch module thing and cleaned everything and tested it. I was getting 12V to both the kill switch and the starter button.
I tested the switch out and the bike turned on. So i turned the bike off and put everything back together. When I went to turn it back on the starter switch didn't work again. Removed that assembly again and this time i was getting 12 to the kill switch but no voltage to the power wire going to the push button! Also, now the bike wont turn on when i jump the solenoid.
(While doing this i noticed some lose wires going to my turning signals. Some had power others didn't. My turning signals would only work at random since i bought the bike. The gas gauge doesn't work either, could that be causing the short). I didn't mess with them, just wrapped the ends in electrical tape for now, because I'm not really worried about the turning signals now, just want to get it to turn on.
I don't know what to do next, I'm not too familiar with bikes and much less electrical issues. Any help is appreciated.
