bent side stand switch

I have a new one,

While transporting my bike home on the trailer. ( not running for 2 years, but it is now )
Previous owner had it on it's side stand, and strapped down. In the process of it bouncing around on the stand on the way to my house, the kick stand kill switch got bent. It starts and runs fine, but I would feel better knowing that I won't accidently take off with the sidestand down. My question is, is there a way to test that it works, and just needs the "button" bent back straight? I tried to bend it with a pair of pliers, and I'm not sure it's possible. I may have to take it out and use a vice. Does anyone have experience with this, and what is the best way to bend it back, without ruining it?

Thanks
Bob
