Voltage regulator

will VOLTAGE REGULATOR 21066-1089 work on a 1985 vulcan 700? what is the SENSOR for? some have one and some do not. the old one

Are you refering to the sensor lead on the regulator? I'm not an expert with them but from what I've disiphered from the net it's part of the system that tells the regulator to charge. I'm sure someone will chime in with a more exact definition.

Do you need an R&R? I'm upgrading to a mosfet R&R. I'd be willing to sell my old one for like $20 shipped if you want it. Just throw'n it out there.

To answer the question, yes that model works. It's actually the direct replacement. Here is a link to a thread Lance had done on it.

This r/r reportedly will charge at near 14 volts even at idle, (and is not cooked in the goats belly oven* when mounted in the stock position under the battery box).
