Smile Ignition Key

I lost the key and thought I could use the rear helmet lock to have a key made. I was told the key may not work in the ignition once it's cut. I understand why but am wondering if this is the case with my 95 Vulcan 750. Is it easy to take the console apart and take the ignition out so I can have a key made?

Thanks for your help.

The key will work. The key code is stamped into the bottom side of the helmet lock. Any dealer can cut a key from the code. Cost here is $ 9.00 iirc.
