stator replacement avoided.

Just wanted to share my experience..only had my 85 VN700 for a couple weeks now and have had to replace the battery,1st ride ran horrible and stalled wouldnt start.checked battery and it was dead and stator was not charging at all.tested wires from stator and nothing, pulled off all tape and found hat they had been spliced with crimp connectors..didnt hold because they all pulled apart after soldering all connections and shrink tubing it seemed good and even ran better.Until yesterday.same symptoms running bad dim lights..back to checking stator, pulled stator cover to find that It actually has a brand new stator in it(awesome) but when it was installed the wires were run over the magneto and were actually being cut while the motor was running 1 cut half way through another completely cut and found another failed crimp connector..again soldered everything together shrink tube and re-routed wires away from magneto and out through the case...fired it up and bike is now a screamer..stillhave some wiring to go through on the rest of the bike but the charging system is great..definately worth looking into incase you start having some charging troubles, only takes one broken wire.
