Possibly but I would look at a new AGM battery first before making this mod - the battery sorted my hot-start issues out.

That is a great presentation. I did the mod about 2 years ago. Wish I had your notes then.
Thanks for your efforts.

Talking Engine Coil Modification

Spectacular!!!

It was difficult, only because a screw was stuck and i went crazy trying to get that thing off. Finally got it, then could not figure out what the gap was, because nothing was specific on any of these threads. Figured that out.

The metal was tough to file down, but i got it done. Took me about 3 hours and a lot of headache...but i took her for a ride this morning...WOW.

I have increased engine power. Great. I did it because i was having problems with hot starts. Now it started in 2nd gear, hot. I was shocked.

Just a wonderful modification. Thanks

3 questions:

1) are you trying to move the coil closer to the center of the "circle"?

2) is that the sator behind the coils?

3) 1 pair of wires that come out of the case on the upper right are for the coils i assume, what about the others?

A1. Yes
A2. The coils are the stator, (as in stationary). The metal bowl shaped part that rotates around and behind the stator is the rotor. It has a small magnet fixed in the side that trigger a pulse in the ignition pickup coils when it rotates past.

A3. There are 2 sets of two wires coming from the pickup coils,
and 3 yellow stator wires carrying 50-70 volts AC to the reg/rectifier where
Alternating Current (AC) is "rectified" to Direct Current (DC), and regulated to approx 12-15 volts.

okay, so im new to vn750, sorry to revive this thread
got her after many hands, so bits are worn out
1-i got snatced/snapped pickup coil (PUC) wires
2-i dont know either my pickups are modded on the magnet point

so i set my PUC to far left (original place) n check the gap....
MASSIVE, i got 1.00mm (or marked 100) blade to slip in between

my Q's
1- when y'all say .020, that thing is in MM guage rite? .020 = 20 marked blade
----since i got a guage that marked 0.05-1.00mm, i need 20's blade???
2- on my snapped PUC, there are marked 1 dot n 2 dots, are they different??
----if they are, which is top n which is bottom??
3- whats the original PUC protrusion (magnet nipple) length?
----i checked mine, .090 blade sit flush, are they grinded off?

thats all for now, thanks for ur time
