battery problem and spark plug wire

I have not had my 750 long and I'm starting to have some starting problems. I'm not sure if it's the battery or a charging issue. The bike cranks slow and if it does not start the 1st few times I have to jump it. The last owner said he put a new battery in last spring and he did not ride it over the winter but a time or two.
I checked all of the connections and had a loose ground, got that fixed and it did not help. I tried to get the battery tested but they said it was not charged enough to test (should I put it on a charger then bring it up there?)

I will be thankful for any and all help!

Sounds like you need a new Maintenance Free Gel Cell Battery.

if not the cold can surely damage them if not used in winter.

and to answer your questio, yes, fully charge it andhave them load test it, if its bad buy an agm maintenance free battery and not a wet cell like the original, its well worth the extra 20 - 30 dollars. pick up a small tube of dielectric grease for all your connections too!

I think I may have ruined mine. I left it in the bike until january in an unheated shed in New England.

A less than fully charged batttery is more suseptible to freezing.

The vn750 battery is rated at 14 amp hours.
A battery should be charged at a rate of 10% of it`s capacicty, or 1.4 amps in this case.
The lowest rated automotive chargers are usually 2 amps, but that is close enough if you only leave it on for 4 or 5 hours.

Check the charging sysytem to be sure you are getting ~14.5 v at 5K rpm.
If the charging system is good, your battery is weak. Get a new MF-AGM battery. This is a good one:

My battery tested fine, maybe I was just killing it trying to start the bike

Also the bike has alittle miss sometimes. So I pulled the plugs cleaned them up (were not bad) then was checking the plug wires and found this

This is where the plug wire goes into the coil. It looks like the end is missing, or is that how it should look?
