Plan your trip with only left turns and you'll do fine.....
Not the horn, maybe the connector under the tank from the ign. switch or the bullet connector in the same location. I don't think it's a 'short' but a loose connection.

Check the ignition switch connector. It is in the light bucket or some where's around the turning neck area. I am not sure, i never had that problem.

The connectors are under the tank..... you can get to them from the left side cover, (the one between the fork and tank). The only things that should be in your light bucket are the connectors for the 'dash', tach, speedo, head light, turn sig, and an accessory plug........

2X checking the wires from the ignition. I had one rubbed through there and took out fuses on a regular basis until I fixed it. Sounds more like a broken wire, just a little harder to find.

87 vn750at least that is what the frame #'s say
