Bad Miss (Think due to battery help)

ok i havent startd my bike in about a month been real busy, so me and the boy went out to put the battery in(the battery came out last year) well i told him to put it in and he accidently put it in backwards and it sparkd when he tried to put the cables on so any ways i took the battery out and put it in right and it was dead went to start it had to jump it took the jumpers off the bike got a horable miss turned the jumper up and it straightend out a lil but i mean the jumer is on 150volts so its putting out but is my stator bad or is the battery just that weak?

Have you checked the battery voltage at rest, with the key on (bike not running), and at idle? Those readings would give you a decent starting point.

I recall reading in the service manual that connecting the battery backwards can fry some of the electronic ignition components instantly, including the r/r, the stator and the IC Ignitor (reference page 300 of the Clymer manual). I don`t know if that will cause the horrible miss you describe or not. Or if it would just not let the engine start at all.

In any event, do as peerless suggests, and check battery voltage as a starting point for diagnosis.

it will for sure blow some fuses.. don't ask how I know!...check the fuses.. charge the battery.. and when you do jump it make sure its from just a battery.. not a charger or car jumping device.. and not from a running car.....is your battery a wet cell or AGM?
