Have you tried inserting a standard bulb? I have a specialty LED that normally rotates anytime the key is on and flashes when the brakes are applied.

I'm keepin' all the left over parts. I'm gonna use 'em to build another bike!

Do you have ordinary incandescent bulbs?
Is there a brake light modulator on the bike?

Sounds to me like you've got a brake light modulator added that's wired into the running/tail light lead instead of the brake lead.

To each his own, but I hate those rotating tail lights. To me, they're distracting and irritating, and I haven't seen one yet that the brakelight side was bright enuff, especially in daylight.
