Front cylinder not firing.

I tore my bike apart this weekend, and removed the exhaust system, cleaned the switches, and pulled my rear wheel to lube the splines.
I got it all back together, and when I started it, I have lost power to the front cylinder. I got it started, but it ran like crap, wouldn't idle, so I checked the pipes, and lo and behold, the front cylinder pipe was stone cold.
So I get to pull the gas tank AGAIN! AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!!
Would the coils still work if the power, and trigger wires were switched?
Does it have to be grounded against the frame? I will tear it apart again tomorrow to see what has happened.
It ran fine before, but I am slowly fixing her up to get her road ready.

I`m 99% sure the polarity of the primary circuit/trigger wires to the ignition coils does not matter. Can anyone else confirm this? (FWIW, A note I made to myself in my manual says my bike has the red wire to the front, on the front cylinder coil.)

I got her working. The hot wire wasn't on the coil all the way. I coulda swore I had them on all the way, guess it pays to double check EVERYTHING when you put stuff back together.
I have a few extra parts left over, but I know where they go. lol
Thanks for the help all, and I tried the plug against the head, and no spark.
BTW FlacoLove, I have been nailed with an HEI system on a GM car, and it didn't feel none too good. But I like your train of thought.
