Non Working Rear Tail Light

I recently purchased an 85 VN700-A1 and after getting it delivered I was going over it and I noticed the rear tailight and license plate light were not working. Is the taillight supposed to come on after you turn the key on, or after the bike is started? The headlight, turn signals, and brake lights all work fine.
The license plate light is no big deal as I will be checking to see if the bulb is bad.
I'm not familiar with the newer type systems that run the lights al the time.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks all.

yes the taillight should work with the key on since it and the license plate light t both work any time the key is on and it has two bulbs in the taillight both 11 57 dual element you may have a loose connection under the seat or a blown fuse as it is unlikely three bulbs are blown, clean the connections on the taillight plug and you will probably fix all three.

I was able to get it fixed. The wire connector under the seat was undone, not sure why. I replaced the bulbs to be on the safe side, and they all work w/o any issues so far.
