Charging problems

Hi, I'm new to the forum, from Near Plymouth UK. I'm having a problem with my charging system and wondered if anyone could help! I was getting no charge, so I had a new stator fitted (the old one was burnt) on testing with the new stator the voltage was 13.5 at tickover and went up erratically but still under 14v on revving up. The regulator was a new one(although I had used it for a few miles on the old stator) and the battery is recent. All connections have been checked. Any ideas would be great!

charging problems

Hi again, The volts are erratic when revving but the voltmeter touches 14v occasionally at higher revs. The same results are obtained with two different regulators. The battery is the only other thing that seems possible as it was a very cheap one, unless the old stator blew both regulators.

what do you mean by erratic? Voltage should be 14.5 at 5000 RPM 13.5 at idle and anything in between for in between RPM's

What are you using to test the voltage, and where are you testing for voltage at? the best tester to use is a digital multi-meter at the battery.

I'm using a digital multimeter at the battery. The voltage at tickover is 13.5v and at about 5000 revs roughly 13.2v
