rebuilding a stator

a friend of mine thinks he is able to rebuild a stator at home. any one knows how hard it is..what tools are needed and what the process is? and just how much knowledge do you need to know to rebuild one.

im getting to the point of repairing my bike for once and exploring what we can do. i already have tim parrots site booked mark if i decide to go to some one else to rebuild. its going onto a 06 750 Vulcan.

basically im looking to see if this is a valid option for us to rebuild it our selfs. and just what it would take to do it at home.

do a search for frankenstator you will find a member Hizzo3 who rebuilt his own. it did not seem like a happy process. I thought about it then just sent mine to TPE. a lot easier but you are looking at a 3 week turnaround. but it is worth it

If you are interested in actually riding this summer, send it to TPE.
If you want to spend all summer experimenting instead, try rebuilding it yourself.

I have been in the transformer business for better than 25 years, wound lots of transformers in my time. This great experience has confirmed that I will never rewind my stator. Unless you really know what you are doing with this gauge of wire, making those tight turns, you'll be re-doing it forever. All it takes is one nick of the insulation during the winding, and you're doing another motor pull.

I used to rewind electric motors. For all the aggravation involved in pulling the motor. Spend the 130 bucks for a Ricks Stator.
