Dim Headlight?

My headlight is dimmer than it should be on LOW beam. when i switch to HIGH, it does get brigther, ive checked the bulb and both filaments (sp) are fine. I know my system is charging by hooking up a volt-meter. at idle it is about 12v and around 2k rpm, it bumps up to 14v. All my other lights are bright as day, signals, brake, etc... so.. what would cause the headlight to be dim? i dont feel safe to ride at night cuz i "over-ride" the headlight at about 25 mph!! any input will be much appreciated!

It could be a bad switch, hl connector terminal, or a bad RLU. Does the hl warning light come on @ low beam?

Check the HL connector terminals they kinda fry after the years and loose continuity. If that's not it check the switch and RLU.

The RLU is the (reserve lighting unit) if one filament burns out it will automaticly switch to the other filament, they do go bad. Remove the left switch assy and clean the HL switch contacts.

I just cleaned the contacts on the HL switch. that is working fine. my headlight warning light is on, but both filaments are good. so does this mean my RLU is bad?

Garage
do you have a manual? the manual has tests for every electrical system and part on the bike. If you need the manual, check my link for a free pdf version... be warned its a husge file, but well worth it.
