Ant colony in meters

I was wondering if anyone has taken the meters apart to the point of removing the tach out of the white housing. There is a metal ring that has been pressed around the entire thing and I'm sure that I'll tear the thing up when prying at it. I am working on a bike that had sat for a couple years and an ant colony decided it would be a good home. I found them in the air cleaner, meters, harness, trunk, and behind the head light. They were able to get inside the meter and made quite the mess. I was hoping to get into it and clean out the remainder of an ant colony and also clean the plastic lens.

I was able to take the ring off my tach on my '85 VN700. I used a small screw driver and pried the ring little by little. It took me at least 30 minutes to go around the whole thing. I was able to put it back together and it didn't look all that bad.

Thanks for the response. Guess I'll have to be very gentle and open the thing up.

Careful of the edges as you work on it too as they can be razor sharp and will do a number on your hands. Slow and steady and lots of patience!

If you bugger up the gasket/big O ring, I've got one.

I'm keepin' all the left over parts. I'm gonna use 'em to build another bike!
