You might be posting to the wrong thread but what the heck... You could put the bike up on the center stand and start it in neutral without clutching. It should start. Turn bike off. Put it in first gear and without clutching try to start it. It shouldn't start. To me that would mean the switch is working.

The bike is on the center stand because if the clutch switch isn't working and you try starting it when it's in first gear the bike might run from you. On the center stand the back wheel is off the ground.

Send a message via Yahoo to jdamato1
I just posted the clutch safety switch issue. Try holding in the start button and pull down on the 3 wires or tap your clutch safety switch.

newOlduser,

You saved the day! I had the same issues with my '86 VN750 and THANKFULLY found your post! I followed the cleaning instructions you put up with the pictures. Finished putting it all back together...turn key....push button and it started!! First try! Haven't had that in a while. Great job and thanks for posting the pictures with the step by step instructions on them.

I may have a similar issue to what you had newolduser. On occasion, when I press the start button nothing happens. So far I have been able to cut off the kill switch, then cut it back on and it starts right up. This leads me to believe it is something related to the kill switch or starter button... Could I be wrong, and do I need to do what you did?

One other thing... How the heck can I change my login ID to something other than carolesteven???
