No Blinkey!!

So here's the deal. I made a really cool luggage rack for my 2002 VN.
I relocated (actually new ones) to the back. Pretty simple right? Just unplug the wires and extend them back.
Wrong, again!!!
They don't work anymore. Nothing.......nadda.....no blinkey.
I took one of the stock ones and put the black and yellow wire on the plus side of the battery and the grey to neg and it worked so I though that the black and yellow is positive and that's the way I wired it.
Soooooooo, what am I doing wrong here? I've got more time in trying to wire up stupid turn signals than it took to build the rack!!!
I guess there is still "hand signals" in order.
