regulator

alright before winter hit my regulator took a dump on me. i have had it parked for the most part. i would charge the battery up to full "old battery" and take a 15 min ride or so with a friend of mine perhaps 10 times since i found out about the regulator failing out. then once more so i could do the toys for tots ride (witch was a blast 1500 + bikes for s small town)

then i found out a failing regulator can cause your stator to fail out you guys think mines ok? i havnt abused the bike much.

the thing i want to know is were can i find a good replacement regulator. so far the best i found is http://www.electrosport.com/products...detail-585.php

is there any thing a bit cheaper that woks just as well? any info on parts would be helpful i just cant seem to dig any up online and out local bike shops charges a arm and a leg plus half your soul for work and parts. thanks guys.

p.s. i also just ordered a mant. free battery to put into the bike hoping it will help as well. starting the bike up with the current one is almost impossible from a cold start and sluggish on warm days with my current battery.

the best deal is to have your stator rewound by Tim Parrot at Tim Parrot Enterprises. He charges $69.95 plus 12 bucks for Shipping. and his rewound stators come with a one year warranty. I have heard some bad things about Electrosport right now. try getting an R/R from eBay. there are a lot of brand new ones for a buy it now price of 99.00 or look for a used R/R for a VN1500 they use the same R/R as ours, but they don't have problems with heat killing them.

Looks like to monitor pin is missing, which means that the regulator uses the output (battery) pin for monitoring. I personally prefer this as it is more fail safe than a separate voltage feedback.

Other than the monitor pin, the connector looks the same, and I see no reason why it would not work.

there was another post on this a few weeks ago where a guy bought a R/R without the monitor pin, he was told from the company that it would work, but when he got it.. it didn't work... he had to replace it with the correct one... that is not to say that you couldn't make it work... just move the brown wire (reference wire) over to the Battery wire and tie them both in together.
