How to test the side stand switch?

I am not sure if my switch is functioning properly or not. What is the best and sure way to find out?

My scooters' engine will cut off once the side stand down. Because they are automatic, that's the only way.

With VN750, engine will still running in neutral with the stand down. Just want to find out if the switch is doing its job or not. What is the safe and sure way to check? Thanks.

You can test a couple ways, one way is to put bike on centerstand. Put the side stand down, put in first gear, pull the clutch and start the engine. When you release the clutch the engine should die, the ignition circuit should be cut.

Just did the test. The switch appeared to be functioning OK. Thanks again Lance.

That sidestand switch, and the switch that prevents it from starting in gear without the clutch in were the first 2 things I removed from my bike, right after buying it. I have removed them from every bike I've ever owned that had them, with the exception of my Vino 125, which is automatic, with no neutral, and you can't leave it in gear on the sidestand. Now if there were just some way of removing that positive neutral finder, so I could get it into second gear to push start it if necessary, since Kawasaki did not see fit to provide a kickstarter. Jerry.

I am a motorcyclist, NOT a biker.

I never had to push start my 750 for the three years I had it, but it seems to me that once the bike is rolling a little, you could shift into 2nd?? Am I wrong?

Slim, I was referring to Jerry's post talking about "if there were a way to remove the positive neutral finder" so you could shift into 2nd to push start the bike. I was asking if it were possible to roll the bike, and once it is rolling, shift it into 2nd to be able to push start it? I know it needs to be in 2nd to push start. I was just asking if it is possible to shift it after you get it rolling.

Fergy. You are correct. With the bike turned off and in either fist gear or neutral, I can pull clutch and roll bike forward while tapping on the gear and it will go into second gear within 1 full tire rotation or a little less. Trick is to shift gears while bike is rolling forward.

Thanks! I figured you could, but never had to push start mine in the three years I had it, so never had to try that.
