making your own led taillights...

much harder than it seems.
Being the guy who likes to build it myself rather than buy it from clear alternatives, im in the process of making a LED taillight. bought the LEDS online for 9 bucks and the pcb board for 4 at the shack.
I shaved it down to match the size of the taillight, now the problem is that the rims of the LEDs are preventing me from cramming the LEDs side by side in the pcb. so i will probably have to shave down the rims of the leds, all 140 of them...
also i only vaguely figured out the wiring scheme. will have to do that when i get to it.

If you have the specs for the LED's, give THIS site a try for figuring out wiring.

Have your tried staggering the height of each adjacent LED so that the rim touch a neighboring LED bulb section, not rim to rim? It still won't allow for 'cramming' the LEDs side-by-side, but it would reduce the amount of space between each LED.

@dirttrack hmm wow i wish i saw these earlier.

@cglennon ive tried to double stack them and its the board, its layout is not designed for led matrices apparently.
