What gauge bullet connectors to use for "accessory" line?

The VN750 has a built-in fuse line labeled "ACCESSORY", with two sets of bullet connectors. I'm wiring in a Powerlet adapter and would prefer not to stack on the battery terminals with the in-line fuse thingy it comes with when I have a perfectly good open fuse line already stock: I plan to simply strip the red/black (unfused) leads, put on male crimp-on bullet connectors and use the "accessory" plugs instead.

The bullet connectors I have though, which I thought were standard, are just a bit too fat to stick in there. I looked at the bag and it reads "16-14 gauge". I don't remember Radio Shack selling any other gauge of bullet connectors. Should I just use a little more force, or am I supposed to get some 18 gauge bullets? I scanned my Clymer book and it doesn't say anything on the topic that I could dig up easily.
