No Power When Ignition Is On

My 1995 does not apply power to the headlight or dash indicators when the key is in the On position.

I think it's because the clutch switch's plunger is broken or jammed (as per https://www.vn750.com/forum/showthrea...=clutch+switch) as I replaced the clutch lever today due to the bike falling over in gravel and did not notice a plunger while I was working on it. Before I left on my test jaunt, the bike did give me the same symptom for a moment but after I popped into first and then back into neutral (while using the clutch lever) the lights came on and away we went.

The bike is currently on the side of the road so I need to have a game plan before I head out there with the truck and tools. Would a stuck/inoperative clutch switch cause there to be no power applied from the ignition switch? Assuming the clutch switch is broken, does a known workaround exist that would allow me to get her home without it? I tried unplugging the connector but there was no effect.

Also, my kickstand switch has never worked. However, I did have to monkey with it today to get the plunger back into position when the kickstand is down (it had slipped on after the fall, apparently) so it may also somehow have come back to life to screw things up. Is there a workaround for this switch as well?

Check your main fuse, Battery connections and frame ground. Clutch switch will have nothing to do with main power.

To the left of the battery ground on the frame, just follow the battery ground cable.

If the bike "thinks" it is in gear and the clutch isn't pulled in, it won't let you even try to start it.
So..
If bike starts in neutral, the two plungers don't come into play. the bike "knows" it's not going to lunge because it isn't in gear. If you can't start it in gear (no electrical) then the clutch lever plunger or kickstand switch plunger could be the culprit since they are part of the "safety lockout"

Thanks Dianna, I was wondering what the function of the clutch lever switch is. I guess mine has been inoperative for some time as it let me start it up in gear on gravel several nights ago (hence the new clutch lever).

As Lance indicates, it must be a larger electrical problem causing the total lack of power. I'm favoring the bad ground theory as it has definitely acted wonky on startups lately--the starter turns fine but never quite fast enough to get the motor to catch right away.

I cleaned up the battery terminals and the frame ground and she started up. I think the negative battery cable connection was loose but I cleaned them all to be sure.
