My bike started missing

I purchased my bike this past Saturday. It ran beautifully all day Saturday. Put about 125 miles on it. Then yesterday I noticed it missed a little. Today, it started missing again, but only worse. It felt like it was running on one cylinder. I disconnected spark plugs one at a time, all 4. There seems to be a strong spark at each wire end, but one of the wire plug caps has a crack in the insulation. I remember my Vulcan 800 classic had a similar problem, and it turned out to be the rubber boot. I fixed it with a little black silicone. Any ideas???

Start out with your gut feeling and replace the cracked cap. Assuming they are all the same age, may want to replace them all at the same time. Have you pulled the plugs to see what they look like? Many of the folks here swear by the iridium spark plugs; good cold and hot starts, and last an extremely long time. Look in the Vulcan verses (toward bottom of page) for AGM battery, R/R relocation, and other electrical issues.

I'm keepin' all the left over parts. I'm gonna use 'em to build another bike!

x2 to what flitecontrol said. Replace all at the same time. There may be more to your troubles than the wires though, but you've got to replace what you know is bad.

I looked at the air filters, surprised to find dirt bike style oil drenched foam ones. Well they looked like they might have been originals, as they had just fallen off the mesh on the bottom. I mean completely shot.

And some of that foam could have made its way to the carbs. Looks like you may have a carb cleaning in your future. Crobins has a how to with pictures posted here somewhere. Folks here say getting them off and on is the hard part; cleaning is easy.

What year is your bike, and how many miles?
