gasket sealers

before I reassemble my bike a couple questions to those who have done it.
whats the best gasket sealer and do I use the same on the gear case and the stator cover.
orings, should they be oiled like the oil filter before I put them on?
threadlock, permanent or semi permanent on the bolts and screws?
and spline lube, I think I read moly 60 or equivalent, can all this be found at autozone?
thanks!

Use Permatex High Tack on stator cover RTV will break down and leak. You will not need sealer on the bevel gear. Do NOT use loctite on the case or bevel gear bolts. Parts stores do not sell anything close to Moly 60,you will have to go to Honda. Light coat of oil on the o-rings.

I use The Right Stuff on the gaskets - expensive, but it's easy to use and has always done the trick. For the bevel gear bolts, etc. you can use red threadlock. But Lance328 is right - NOT loctite!

another big question, almost forgot. what about the rubber grommet on the stator wires, do I use high tack on those as well?
threadlock? just a ring around the threads or coat the threads?
And man moly 60 is not cheap,13.50 for a tube and I dont need that much of it, they wouldn't sell me a couple of finger scoops. lol

You can use a thin coat of sealer on the grommet. I advise against using RED thread locker because it is High Strength and requirs heat for removal, bolts smaller than 3/8" diameter can snap on removal. Use Blue thread locker, it is a medium strength and small bolts can be easily removed. Do not over tighten your bolts, they will snap.

24 minutes and questions answered, like I mentioned in another post. why would you need anymore than this forum. thanks a lot. looks like I'll have to pick up some blue too tomorrow and use my red for the motor mounts (which came off on me once before) and a few other parts here and there.

The grommet supplied with my new Rick's stator a couple of years ago leaked on me. They sent me another grommet and I had to pull the engine again to get at it. The absolute best product for sealing the grommet from the inside is Yamabond or ThreeBond Liquid Gasket 1194 (they're very similar, if not the same formulation). The ThreeBond is cheap and it's very thin and tacky and sticks to the rubber and the aluminum case. The RTV works differently by not sticking, but filling any voids before compression by the case when installed.

RTV silicone is CRAP!!! The Permatex High Tack is very close to threebond and easier to get. It also is fuel resistant and bonds to rubber and metal in the same manor.

Permatex "the right stuff" is a good gasket maker but is not gas resistant.

I only use three sealers on these engines and they are gas resistant.

ThreeBond 1194 on the case halves and stator grommet

Permatex High Tack Spray sealant on the paper gaskets

Permatex Ultra Copper Spray on the head gaskets
