Unhappy Engine shut down at 55 mph

I just bought a 91 vn750 it wasn'tcharging so i checked the stator and it had an open circut. So, yeah you guessed it i replaced the stator. So i took it for a couple of short rides 6 miles or so and every thing seemed ok. Today i crawled on it at 37 degrees and went to work (20 miles away) every thing was fine, ok except my finger tips. I put in my 9 hours at work got on the bike and headed home. Oh yeah, temp is now around 70 degrees. I got about half way home and it seemed like it was starving for fuel and it shut down. So i tried to restart it several times and after about 5 minutes it restarted. Went about a mile and it did it again. Same thing about 5 min. It started again. This happened 3 times so i let it sit got a ride and had some supper. I thought it would cool off and i could finish the ride. Went back about an hour later and nothing now it won't even start. Any ideas?

Wont even start, as in, the starter doesn't even turn over? Or turns over, but the engine doesn't fire up?

sure a buddy at work didn't play a trick on you and turn the petcock off? I did that to someone and that is about all the further they got. but I was behind him. laughed at him, then 'fixed' it

this may seem dumb, but pull a plug and leave it on the wire and start it and see if it sparks.
cuz ya need three things air, fuel, and spark. now unless there is a plastic bag on your air intake can assume that is ok. if you have fuel flowing, could pull a fuel line off petcock and see if it flowing when you turn it over. then to me it seems you are missing spark.?

good point cuz these bikes don't like to switch over quickly. and the gas gauge isn't really a good gauge of anything. other then liquid might be in the tank.

Fuel tank is half full. Valve is open. Today i drained the carbs. Thinking that maybe got a bad batch of gas. After that i cranked it for awhile and it started, so i road t for a 23n mile ride without the side covers on. So now my question is,bad gas or voltage reguator over heating ? Oh yeah i put dry gas in the tank before i drained the carbs.

Dry gas? Is that a gas additive that drys water or a typo?
You could have had a stuck float valve not letting enough gas into the bowl to run the engine for very long. If it keep doing this, I'd get some seafoam in there to clean out your fuel system to start with...
