Replacing Front Turn Signal

Dropped by 1994 750cc Vulcan and the front left turn signal broke. The bulb and wiring is still good so maybe I just need to replace the filter/light cover. I bought an OEM replacement for the entire signal but am not familiar with doing electrical work. Do I need to disconnect the battery? The wires apparently go through the headlight? Where do I disconnect them/attach them? Any advice would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Andrew

if you got the OEM assembly, it really is a simple procedure. plug-n-play simple. The bundle of wires is behind the headlight and if you're mechanically inclined it will be a piece of cake.

The signal mounts on a sort of 'bayonet' slot design. After you get the screw removed, turn the signal stalk (black part) 1/4 turn to unlock it, to the left I think.

Find the three wires in the headlight bucket and unplug the bullet connectors.

Shouldn't need to disconnect the battery, just have the key turned off.
