Yes, it seals oil. No real pressure, but accumulating splash off the rotor. Will leak if it doesn't seal. I reused all the o-rings on my cover, just put a very light coating of sealer on the perimeter o-ring gasket.

I'm wondering if it might be possible to slide the stator case out far enough to install a grommet? I'm thinking it might, but don't remember if there's any interference getting all the bolts out. Need to hobble out and look at my bike, it hasn't moved this summer.

Can you put some black ATV around the JB weld where the leak is?
It might not be real pretty but it it is a small leak the ATV will seal it.
