2001 bike died

I had a hard time starting bike today,,finally started and went for a 30 mile ride...was running good...even stopped twice to see some stuff and she started right back up, no problem,,however..one block from home, I stoped to pick up some seafoam(was out) anyway..when I got back on to start, I turned key to start, put kill switch to run, lights on panel came on , and hit the starter, it started briefly for one second, then died...now I have no lights, nothing...won't start..even the panel lights are out..battery is over 80 % charged acording to meter...what do you think?? connections seems ok..

Pull the left side cover and check the 30A main fuse. Check your battery connections and the ground on the frame.

If the fuse is good, maybe it's in your ignition switch.

I know some things..but not 100 mechanical...help me out with the ignition switch thing...you mean where I put the key in and turn it back and forth from off to on?
I have done that several times and nothing...no oil light, no neutral light, no brake lights, no turn signals, no horn, tried all in the off and on position..no hazards, nothing..

This may be a clue..i have the battery tender on the battery now, just to make sure the battery is charged,,anyway,,,the green light is on and says fully charged,,maintaining,,,when I swith the ignition key to on the red light on the tender comes on and says battery not charging, when I switch the key back to off it says battery now charging, then after two min. it's turns green and says fully charged again...NORMAL???

even before i saw your last post i was going to say try a new battery.... if you have a 12 volt car battery you can jump it and see if that gets it starting... because there is no charging system hooked up to the battery it shouldnt have any effect on the bikes electrical system... i had this problem a while back and the battery was good according to the volt meter i was using but didnt have enough juice to start her up... truned over like once and that was it... start there and work to other things...

just double check all 4 connections that have to deal with the battery... ground and power....

Did you just look at the fuses, or do a continuity test on them?
A fuse may look good, but still be blown.

Also, a load test on the battery might be in order. How old is it and is it a maintenance free one?
