im lost in electric hell

ok went for my first ride about 45 min till it died let it set for bout a half hour mad it about 100 yards then it died again. and that was with a new battery. so i bought a new r/r and plug packs, charged it came out 13.4 put it on the bike started itreved it up and was thinking ok cool the charging systems cool so its idling about 2k and its slowly dropping. cleaned the grounds please help

what's the problem? charging sounds like it's ok, right? 12.4v at idle?

Voltage at the battery terminals should be over 14V at 3000 rpm. Unfortunately the weak point in the charging system is the stator, and you have to pull the engine out to replace it. And before you can remove the engine you have to practically take the bike apart. I've done it once. Hopefully it is not the stator.

There is also a problem with the stator connector, check it as well. Just follow the three wires from the cover to the conn. look for melting and corrosion. As for the high idle, make sure your carb to head boot screws are tight, they can leak and cause a high idle when the bike is hot.

Yes, there are 3 yellow wires coming from the stator and going to the RR. They have bullet connectors on them, and those connectors have been known to come loose. When that happens, it increases resistance at the connectors and the wires around them. One of my wires just broke while I was trying to unplug the connectors. The insulation on the wires was brown and hardened, indicating long term overheating. I cut off the burned ends of the wire and connectors, spliced in some more wire, soldered it together, and put heat shrink on it.
